When I saw his face, I guessed him to be in his mid-60's.
In fact, he is 46.

Jesus said that a man has no greater love, than when he forfeits his own
life for another.
This man is no Simon of Cyrene, being dragged to the side of Jesus by the Roman soldiers.
He goes willingly, and more than willingly.
And I thought, seeing the clothes that he was wearing, that these clothes seemed a kind of religious habit for him.
And I pictured a statue of him, with work gloves and a bandana at the base of the statue.
I can't even imagine the anxiety of being within a fallen building as aftershocks occur.
Human love and courage are often unfathomable, as is the love of God Himself.

What an inspiration.

My uncle is working with the Red Cross in one of the airports around Orlando where Haitian refugees are coming in to be resettled. At 78 years old he is working the 11PM to 7AM shift. He has been volunteering with the Red Cross for many years now and before she died last summer my aunt worked with him in their labor of love.

We each find our little ways of making a difference--some to many others to a few--but the number isn't the important thing in my mind. It is the love that calls us to share the pain of our fellow human beings. Some of us die literal deaths, others die the death that Mary died while standing at the foot of the cross watching helplessly as the one she loved suffered.

God bless his heart.

This is the lived out via delorosa. All that Veronica could do was wipe His face.
How many have been in her place?
There were more than three who were crucified on Golgotha that day.

Indeed.

I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling that I am much more able to endure pain than I am to watch those I love suffer. If that is true, those who had to stand helplessly at the foot of the cross, as each of us has to do on occasion, might have had the far harder part. That is not in any way meant to minimize the agony of what Jesus went through but to recognize the intense pain of those who had to stand by unable to help.
